My first term on the school board has been busy! I regularly spend 10-15 hours a week on board work and am proud to currently serve as board president. Here are some of the ways I’ve worked to strengthen our school district over the past three years.
Supported:
Investing in teacher and staff pay increases each year, including for a 12% raise for teachers in 2023-2024
New bell-to-bell ban on students’ cell phone use during the class day
Unanimous board vote to move 6th graders to elementary school buildings starting the 2029-2030 school year based on state K-6 curriculum requirements, child development data, and discussion with middle school principals
After careful review, supported new ELA, Math, Science curricula — including the STEM-focused Discovery Lab now offered at all Tosa elementary schools
New Dual Enrollment courses that allow high school students to earn college credit
Expanding financial transparency with website dashboard and stronger systems of accounting through new software, training, and external oversight
Facilities projects to adhere to ADA standards
Investment in social-emotional learning and support staff, and expanding restorative practices
Creation and consistent implementation of a written disciplinary framework
